What is Nystatin?

Nystatin is an antifungal prescription medication used to treat certain types of fungal infections. Specific formulations of Nystatin can treat fungal infections in the intestines, tongue, mouth, and throat. Nystatin works by disrupting fungal cell membranes, which helps stop fungal growth. This medication should not be used to treat fungal infections of the blood.

Who should not use Nystatin?

For children and adults, Nystatin is usually given as 4 to 6 mL per dose, four times daily. When taking the medicine, half the dose is placed in each side of the mouth.
