What is Depo-Provera?

Under the name Depo-Provera CI (for “contraceptive injection”) or Depo Sub-Q Provera 104, Depo-Provera is also used as a women's contraceptive. Both endometrial cancer and kidney cancer are “provoked” into uncontrolled growth by estrogen. Estrogen also causes the endometrium to grow and thicken and is the hormone responsible for endometriosis, an abnormal growth of endometrial tissue on the outside of the uterus. More serious but less common adverse effects include liver problems, blood clots, and high calcium levels.

Mental and mood changes include depression, nervousness, and euphoria.
