Bepreve is a brand-name drug antihistamine eye drop. The generic version of Bepreve, bepotastine besilate, has been approved by the FDA; however, it may not be currently available on the market.
Bepreve is an ophthalmic solution (or eye drop solution) used to relieve allergy symptoms affecting the eyes. It is a fast-acting antihistamine that blocks the release of histamine, a substance responsible for inflammation during an allergic reaction. Bepreve belongs to a class of drugs called histamine receptor antagonists. It helps to treat symptoms such as itchy and watery eyes.
Note: Bepreve should not be used to treat irritation caused by contact lenses. If you are wearing contact lenses, you must remove them prior to instilling a dose of Bepreve. Then, you should wait at least 10 minutes before putting your contact lenses back in. Bepreve contains a preservative called benzalkonium chloride which may cause discoloration in soft contact lenses.
To reduce the risk of eye infections, you should keep the tip of your Bepreve dropper from directly touching the eyes or any surrounding surfaces.
The most common side effect reported with using Bepreve is a mild taste after administering the medication. Other common side effects of Bepreve include eye irritation, stuffy nose, sore throat, and headache. Side effects are usually mild and go away on their own. Contact your doctor if these side effects persist or worsen.
You should seek immediate medical attention if you experience any of the following symptoms of an allergic reaction: hives, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat.
You should let your doctor know if you are breastfeeding, pregnant, or plan to become pregnant while using Bepreve. Let your doctor know about any over-the-counter (OTC) or prescription medications you take to avoid any possible drug interactions.
This may not be a complete list of side effects. Seek medical advice and ask your doctor about other precautions before using Bepreve.
