Besivance is an FDA-approved, prescription ophthalmic suspension in the form of eye drops used to treat bacterial eye infections. Besivance is a quinolone antibiotic containing besifloxacin, which is used to help the body fight bacteria. It works by preventing the growth of bacteria in the eye.
This medication is only used in patients with bacterial eye infections and is not recommended for the treatment of eye infections caused by viruses, fungi, and mycobacteria. Unnecessary use or misuse can result in Besivance becoming ineffective.
Besivance comes in the form of eye drops and is available in 5 mL bottles. The typical dose is one drop in the affected eye(s) three times a day, four to twelve hours apart, for seven days. It is recommended that you follow your doctor's orders or the instructions on the administration of Besivance, as your prescription may not be a standard dosage.
Side effects of Besivance include but are not limited to temporary redness in the eyes, itchy or burning eyes, blurred vision, and headache.
