Avycaz contraindications - Who shouldn't take Avycaz?

  • This medicine is not right for everyone. You should not receive it if you had an allergic reaction to ceftazidime, avibactam, or similar medicines.

Avycaz warnings

  • This medicine may cause the following problems:Serious allergic and skin reactionsBrain and spinal cord problems, including seizures and myoclonia (muscle twitching or jerking)

  • This medicine can cause diarrhea. Call your doctor if the diarrhea becomes severe, does not stop, or is bloody. Do not take any medicine to stop diarrhea until you have talked to your doctor. Diarrhea can occur 2 months or more after you stop taking this medicine.

  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you have kidney disease, liver disease, nervous system problems, or an allergy to penicillin.

  • Tell any doctor or dentist who treats you that you are using this medicine. This medicine may affect certain medical test results.

  • Your doctor will do lab tests at regular visits to check on the effects of this medicine. Keep all appointments.

Avycaz interactions & what to avoid when taking Avycaz

  • Some medicines can affect how ceftazidime/avibactam works. Tell your doctor if you are using probenecid.

Serious Side Effects

  • Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing

  • Diarrhea that may contain blood

  • Severe vomiting, stomach pain

  • Blistering, peeling, red skin rash

  • Confusion, loss of consciousness, jerking or twitching of the muscles, seizures, seeing, hearing, or feeling things that are not there, severe sleepiness

  • Trouble breathing or swallowing, swelling of your hands, face, or mouth

Less Serious Side Effects

  • Dizziness, nervousness

  • Pain, itching, burning, swelling, or a lump under your skin where the needle is placed

  • Constipation, nausea
