What is Symbyax?

Symbyax is a brand-name combination prescription drug used to treat depressive episodes in bipolar disorder (manic-depressive illness) as well as severe depression that does not respond to other medications.

Fluoxetine belongs to a class of drugs called SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors). These drugs work by preventing chemicals important to nerve cell communication from being reabsorbed back into nerve cells.
