Uses:

  • Treats infections of the ear canal, minor swelling of the ear, and other ear problems., Treats middle ear infection (acute otitis media with tympanostomy tube, AOMT). This medicine contains a quinolone antibiotic and a corticosteroid.

What is Otovel used for?

Otovel is used to treat bacterial infections of the middle ear. Use of this medication can relieve symptoms associated with these infections including ear ache and swelling. Otovel stops the growth of bacteria and reduces the symptoms of an ear infection. It is indicated for adults and children 6 months. This medication is available as a liquid.

How to take Otovel

  • Your doctor will tell you how much medicine to use. Do not use more than directed.

  • Otic routeUse this medicine only in your ear.

  • Gently clean any fluid (discharge) from the outer ear using a clean cloth or tissue. Do not put a cotton swab or any other object in the ear canal.

  • Remove the medicine from the foil pouch. Do not open the foil pouch until you are ready to use it.

  • Otic routeYou may warm the drops by holding the unopened bottle in your hands for a few minutes. Cold drops might make you dizzy.

  • Otic routeLie down or tilt your head to the side. For a child, gently pull the child€™s earlobe down and back to straighten the child€™s ear canal. For an adult, gently pull the earlobe up and back to straighten the ear canal.

  • Twist off the vial cap to open. Drop the entire contents of one vial into the ear and pump the tragus 4 times.

  • Take all of the medicine in your prescription to clear up your infection, even if you feel better after the first few doses.

  • Read and follow the patient instructions that come with this medicine. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions.

  • Missed dose: Take a dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, wait until then and take a regular dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up for a missed dose.

  • Otic routeKeep the bottle closed when you are not using it. Store it at room temperature, away from light and heat. Do not freeze. Upon opening the foil pouch, use the vials within 7 days.

  • Your doctor will tell you how much to use and how often.

  • Wash your hands.

  • Warm the drops by holding the bottle in your hands for a few minutes.

  • Shake the suspension well before using.

  • Never touch the dropper to your ear or anything else.

  • Lie down or tilt your head to the side.

  • Drop the prescribed number of drops into the ear.

  • Keep the ear tilted up for a few minutes or insert a cotton plug into the ear.

  • Wash your hands again so as not to spread the infection.

What to do if you miss a dose of Otovel

  • Use as soon as possible except when it is close to the time for your next dose.

  • If almost time for next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your regular dosing schedule.

  • You should not use two doses at the same time.

Otovel contraindications - Who shouldn't take Otovel?

  • This medicine is not right for everyone. Do not use it if you had an allergic reaction to ciprofloxacin, fluocinolone acetonide, or similar medicines, or if you have an ear infection caused by a fungus or virus (including herpes simplex).

  • Tell your doctor if you are allergic to any antibiotic medicines or to steroids such as cortisone, hydrocortisone, or prednisone.

  • Keep all medicine out of the reach of children. Never share your medicine with anyone.

  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

  • Call your doctor if your symptoms do not improve or if they get worse.

  • If you have ear drainage 2 or more times within 6 months after you stop using the drops, tell your doctor.

  • If you have herpes simplex or chicken pox, talk to your doctor before using this medicine.

  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, talk to your doctor before using this medicine.

  • Make sure your doctor knows if you have a history of ear problems or a perforated ear drum.

  • If your symptoms do not get better in one week or become worse, call your doctor.
