Nitrolingual is used to relieve chest pain (angina) in people that have a certain heart conditions including coronary artery disease. It may also be used before physical activities such as exercise, or sexual activity to assist in preventing chest pain. Angina tends to occur when the heart muscle is not getting enough blood.
Nitrolingual belongs to a class of drugs known as nitrates. Drugs in this class work by relaxing the blood vessels and increasing the supply of blood and oxygen to the heart while reducing its work-load.
Your doctor will want to evaluate you before prescribing Nitrolingual to treat your condition. Tell your doctor about any allergies you may have, other medications that you have had in the last two weeks, if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or if you're breastfeeding.
