Alogliptin-pioglitazone is used to help treat type 2 diabetes and other conditions as prescribed by your doctor. It is used with diet and exercise to control the level of sugar in the blood. Alogliptin-pioglitazone should not be used to treat type 1 diabetes. It is available to children and adults as a tablet.

Swallow the tablet whole. Do not split, crush, break, or chew it.
Take your medicine as directed. Your dose may need to be changed several times to find what works best for you.
Missed dose: Take a dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, wait until then and take a regular dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up for a missed dose.
This medicine should come with a Medication Guide. Ask your pharmacist for a copy if you do not have one.

Tell your doctor if you have kidney disease, liver disease, heart failure, edema (fluid retention or swelling), macular edema (swelling of the back of the eye), bone problems, or a history of bladder cancer or pancreas problems.

Some medicines can affect how alogliptin/pioglitazone works. Tell your doctor if you are using gemfibrozil, rifampin, topiramate, or another diabetes medicine (including insulin).
